Is Truth stranger than Fiction or Fiction more realistic than Truth! What happens if Fiction is merged with Truth or Fiction is compared with Truth?
Who is more beautiful Cleopatra or Cinderella?
I am shocked that a fancy fantasy story of Barbarika, that is not there in the epic Mahabharata, is circulated all over the web and so many people including ones like Sadhguru have fallen victim. Not only it is not there in Mahabharata, it has so many logical inconsistencies, that leave you dazed. For such absurd story - anywhere and everywhere it is told - so many likes? That shows that people have lost thinking power! It has even made its place in Wikipedia! That story is just mad man's revelry!
The TV and the media have gone crazy and several episodes are made on this Disney Masaala story. Now these popular TV shows have become authentic. Even today, there are some sensible people like the scholars, who gave lectures on Mahabharata in Undrajavaram and they never even mentioned this name Barbarika, even though they went from A to Z in Mahabharata, as this name or the story is not even there in Mahabharata or any of the Puranas. But you do a Google and even the Wikipedia lists that this story is there in Mahabharata and Skanda Purana, which is a blatant lie. The TV people have no knowledge and just love the masaala. I will not be surprised that in another hundred years, some one will concoct the story of Pandavas meeting Micky mouse and Minnie mouse and they will build a temple for Micky Shyam and make that very popular with festivals and devotees. I am not joking - if you do Google, you will find Khatu Shyam, who was known as Barbarika and there is a temple and huge following already got built up.
The following are only some of the logical absurdities.
1. Barbarika is son of Ghatotkacha. When Ghatotkacha fights on the side of
Pandavas, why not Barbarika fight for Pandavas? Why would he even dream of fighting on Kauravas side?
2. Which lunatic will keep the principle of fighting on the losing side? It is as good as fighting with oneself. And people have to give a good reason for that. Right? Some say promise given to his mother (why such crazy promise?), some say it is his principle (crazy principle)! May be they reached end of their wits!
3. Before the war starts, there is no question of winning or losing side. So, where will he stand? Which side?
4. So, he will wait until the war starts and when one side has losing signs, he will join that side and he will mark all the opponents and kill them all. That means, either almost 7 akShauhins will be saved or 11 akShauhinis will be saved depending on the conditions. That is a great saving of man power as in reality, after the war actually almost 18 akShauhinis were destroyed.
5. Another blunder in the story is the argument that he keeps switching the sides as which ever side, he fights makes that side stronger and other side weaker. The narrator has forgotten his own story that with one arrow, he marks all the opponents and with another arrow, he kills them all. Where is the question of switching sides?
6. Now the absurdities of these mystic arrows. Some versions say Shiva gave the arrow, some said Agni gave and some say Shakti gave - again one's own fancies!
7. If the arrows are that powerful, it is not really the greatness of Barbarika. Even some child or youth, who has them can be as powerful. Of course one may say what about the powerful arrows that all the warriors had? How are those warriors great? There was etiquette for using Brahmastra or PAshupatAstra and the warriors had to use their skills of war.
8. This story must have been coined by some one who had real dislike for Arjuna. That is why this impressed Sadhguru as well, who always tends to put down Arjuna.
Look at some numbers that were dropped from the sky. Again this is from some cock and bull concoction.
Before the war started Lord Krishna asked various warriors how many days, they would take to finish the war and Bhishma says 20 days, DroNa says 25 days, KarNa says 24 days and Arjuna says 28 days? Bhima did not matter for the fabricator? Will Krishna ask such a meaningless question? No one except the Lord knows the outcome of war? Does one mean to say that when Bhishma was fighting all others will keep quiet and when DroNa was fighting, all others will keep quiet and so on? If any one says that, it is only wishful thinking and not a reality.
In VirATa war, Bhishma, Drona, and KarNa and many other warriors were all there and Arjuna alone on the other side and even Krishna was not there as charioteer, only Uttara Kumara was charioteer and yet the Kauravas were defeated!
The morons who fabricated these came up with so many versions that no one knows what hit them. People have so much love for absurd thinking that they grabbed this story ignoring all the absurdities and even built temples, etc for Barbarika and gave him many names, many shapes and many accounts. It has beaten hands down the wildest imagination of Disney people.
It is the field day for the people. They can come up with a lot more fancy and crazy versions.
Even the god Agni is made goddess Agni in some versions.
9. In Gita Krishna says "AyudhAnAM ahaM vajraM". May be He should have told AyudhAnAM ahaM bArbarIkAstraM!
10. We all heard of Brahmastra, PAshupatAstra, NArAyaNAstra, IndrAstra, etc. The fabricator ran out of all god names. If he uses some unknown god's name, the astras can not be made powerful and so coolly skipped it!
11. Arjuna obtained the powerful astras from Agni during KhANdava dahana and from Shiva by doing his tapas. Did Shiva and Agni not have these astras with them at that time or they did not want to give to Arjuna? In any case there should have been mention of these at least specifying that they did not want to give to Arjuna and preserved them to be given to Barbarika!
12. Such a great character and Mahabharata did not even mention his name or even briefly mention his account?
13. What a barbaric way to ask for the head of Barbarika? And his head was put on a pole to watch the war because he asked to witness the war?
14. Like a layman, Krishna hides one leaf under foot. Now these fabricators went one step and did not know which way to go next. One fabricator says that the rrow hovered around his foot, one says it slid under his foot, one says it penetrated his foot! Hey why not that it pierced the leaf without doing any of these, by mere super power. In fact some came up with first arrow doing all this while marking and some say third arrow while hitting. In fact the second arrow is made dummy - either to mark the ones to be saved or some other funny stuff, but never tested!
15. Some versions say collect the leaves, some say pierce the leaves, some say burn the leaves - well go ones own merry way.
16. All other astras - no astra does the partial job of marking and another astra hitting. The same astra does both. Why one astra for marking and another astra for hitting? Why can't the same astra do both the jobs?
17. Some crazy people tried to describe that Barbarika thought that Pandavas were weaker because they had 7 akShauhins! The narrator and Barbarika - both forgot that Arjuna alone fought in VirATA war defeating the Kaurava army, which had all those great warriors. The prowess does not depend upon number.
18. The craziness does not stop here. After the war a question comes up as to who was greatest fighter and they are asked to ask Barbarika! He tells that He saw only Vishnu chakra doing all the killing! Then what war did Barbarika watch? And then some version says Bhima kicked the pole to make the head fall and another version says Arjuna kicked!
19. It is disgusting that people just laugh out at Bhima and Arjuna, just to satisfy their anger and frustration towards them. The great characters like them will never indulge in such pathetic behavior.
20. There was no such custom of humans being sacrificed before a war. Who was given as sacrifice before ViraTa war? Lord Krishna fought so many wars. Which humans were sacrificed before all those wars?
21. When Arjuna did tapas for Shiva, poor Arjuna asked for PashupatAstra onl and not these arrows. Poor Shiva was not even aware that he himself had more powerful arrows than PashupatAstra.
22. What is worse! Even Vedavyasa was not aware of the existence of these arrows.
24. If such arrows existed, why not all these Rakshasas like HiraNyakashipu and Ravana did not even think about them? Only our Disney-narrator knows about them.
