Vedanta
philosophy has three main branches - Advaita, VishiShTAdvaita and
Dvaita. There are others like DvaitAdvaita, ShuddhAdvaita, etc. All
these philosophies interpret Upanishads as per their schools. It must be
noted that Upanishads and consequently all these schools deal with
individual souls and Supreme soul, which are pure consciousness and
non-matter. They do deal with prakRuti, but only at metaphysical level.
They have nothing to do with Science, much less to do with Quantum
Physics, which deals with matter and has nothing to do with pure
consciousness and non-matter
Trying to
establish relation-ship between these two totally disjoint entities,
viz. Quantum Physics and Upanishads/Vedanta is a futile exercise. Those
who claim to have discovered the connection between the two are simply
seeking shelter under braggadocio and spreading the false tidings that
only they are able to enjoy the fragrance of the gagana kusuma (the
sky-flower).
One may write pages and pages
about each of these, but is required to know that there is actually no
link between the two. Know it that they are two different worlds. The
school that gives highest prominence to PratyakSha or direct perception
in verified experience/scientific arena and to flawless scriptures in
Spiritual realm and recognizes that the Philosophical realm and
Scientific realm can thrive on their own, with no clash between the two,
is the most rational and practical school.
Madhvacharya’s
school Dvaita siddhAnta has fully acknowledged this. I hope all the
schools will make a sincere attempt to recognize this and refrain from
making efforts to discover a non-existing connection, which will only be
a self-mockery.

ReplyDeleteHow can we interpret the energy and mass equivalence (e=mc^2) on the basis of Madhwacharya's philosophy?
Specifially keeping jaDa-jaDa bheda in mind, how can, even the subtlest matter (paramaaNu) be considered as a form of energy as modern science says?
Also, quantum physics says that sub-atomic particles have both wave-like and particle-like behavior, so how can this be explained in the context of jaDa-jaDa bheda?
Thank you.
Energy and mass equivalence and Paramanu being considered as a form of energy all come under vikAra of jaDa padarthas. Just as a lump of mud changed to a pot, though non-different from the constituting mud, it is different in terms of shape. It is obvious that vikAritva or change and mutation is the characteristic of inert matter. Paramanu form is changed to energy form or mass changed to energy for and vice versa is similar to mud to pot and pot to mud. If we take sub-atomic particles S1 and S2, even if both have wave-like and particle-like behavior, they have their own existence and so, jaDa-jaDa bheda is pretty obvious.
ReplyDeleteThe thing of it is, this view may not be valid when we consider Knowledge as whole and absolute. How can there be dichotomy in understanding and conflicts in perceptions for someone who is Poornaprajna. No it was certainly not that Shri Madhwacharyaru did not have full perception. It is only the subsequent commentators lacking in full perception that started seeing the differences between Science and Scriptures. Both Science and Scriptures have source in same universal Truth. Of course no amount of writing pages over pages can ever be sufficient even to drill down even an iota of that Transcendental knowledge. Both, the Scientists and Spiritualists have at times, slight glimpses of that truth. And those can be called Eureka movements. When the Truth dawns, be it a Scientist like Archemides or a spiritualist like Akka Mahadevi, the just dance in abandonment with no care in the world. The Bimba and Pratibimba that Shri Madhwacharyaru spoke about, is today getting support through Quantum experiments that have established the existence of twin particles oscillating conjointly, although separated by vast distances. No different than the dancing Paramatma Lord Krishna and multitude of millions of Jivatmans dancing with him to the tune of his flute… The vibrations of his flute is the source of all creation, just like the vibrating quantum particles that oscillate at the fundamental levels of the material world. Same truth presented differently. Only a Poornaprajna can understand this truth. There are conflicts only in situations of partial knowledge…
