The tirtha snana during the pornami of Maagha, Vaishaka and Kartika are related to Bhagavan Vedavyasa and His contribution.  Thus they go by the name Vyasa Pournami/Vyasa puja/Guru Pornami etc.
Sampradaya has it that a very learned pandit, due to his purva janma paapa, becomes puffed with pride insults gurus and gets brahma-raxasa janma and keeps bothering pilgrims on their way by asking the question -- "who will not do snana on Aa, Kaa, Maa, Vai" and harms those who didn't give reply.Pilgrims used to avoid the path haunted by this raxasa. To put an end to this, Sri Vadirajaru confronts him and says that only a "raxasa" will not do snana on those days of Ashada, Kartika, Maagha and Vaishaka and defeats him in vaada and makes him to carry his pallaki thereby removing his raxasa janma.
Ofcourse, people do take bath on all days but that is only for removing external dirt and this snana is different and called "tirtha snana" -- the one that removes the in-dwelling dirt like kama krodha, lobha, madha matsarya and its root cause paapa/sin in us. The sin is the one that is stopping us from making *real* adhyatmika progress.
The jaDa water doesn't have such a capacity and the awareness of Bhagavan and His vyapti and vyaapara in such waters alone can remove the sin in us. The correct knowledge of Bhagavan is given by shastra. Thus, tirtha refers to shastra as they alone can give knowledge of Bhagavan which in turn removes the paapa/sin.
Thus tirtha snana refers to immersing oneself in shastra and recollect such thought while bathing in waters. If the water happens to be sacred [due to the blessings of great soul], it becomes even more shreshta.
Thus, in our system, it is not just the mere act of bathing but the knowledge behind is what matters for real progress.
One is supposed to think about "drava rupa Sri Hari who is abhinna from our Bimbarupi Sri Hari"  everyday and if that is not possible atleast on these special days.
This is done starting from:

1. Chaitra pournami to Vaishaka Pornami -- Vaishaka masa snana. or atleast on Pornami day with the thought of Sri Kamalalaya Madhusudana [Kamalalaya being His concert]

Sankalpa: (Click on the shlokas for audio)

Arghya:

2. Ashvija pornami to Karthika pournami -- Karthika Snana with Sri IndiraDamodara

3. Pausha pornami to Maaga Pornami -- Maagha Snana with thoughts on Sri Kamala Madhava.

Sankalpa:"maaghasnAnam karishhyAmi makarasthe divAkare

माघस्नानम् करिष्यामि मकरस्थे दिवाकरे
आसमाप्ति महादेवा निर्विघ्नं कुरु माधव

Names of nadi for smarane during early hours of the morning [praatahkaala] especially on special days or during snaana, is stressed in shastra.
The stotra quoted in "Smruthimanikya-sangraha" extolls the recitation of these names, by emphasizing that those who chant these nadi names with the thought of its abhimaani devata, and the in-dwelling Sri Hari, will get moxa as mukhya phala, and doubtless one will get rid of many paapas that stand in our way to the joy here in samsaara and moxa.
It says "koti" janma-krutam "paapam" get destroyed by the smarana of these names.
Note that "smarana" involves noting the 5 difference aka pancha-bheda, and this becomes real "puja".
1. jiva-jada bheda
2. jiva-jiva bheda
3. jiva-ishvara bheda
4. jada-jada bheda
5. jada-ishvara bheda.

1. Here nadi water is "jada", and thus it is vastly different from its presiding abhimaani devata, who is "chetana"/sentient being.

2. Unseen in these waters, not only its abhimaani, but her controllers, i.e., higher devatas are always present. Like in river Ganga, along with "gangaa maate", her husband "varuna-deva" is also present, and so are every single devata. Note that during "kalasha puje" we invoke so many devatas already present in our own water supply!

3. In all these -- jada water, its material components, nature, its abhimaani devatas along with higher devatas, Paramaatma Sri Hari, along with Laxmidevi is ever present as an independent  controller.

4. Every devata, other than Laxmi-Naaraayana, has
jada/prakruthi body made of tri-gunas like Sattva-Rajas-Tamo and its offshoot panchabhutas. This varies from deha to deha. Thus there is difference between jada to jada.

5. Paramatma Sri Hari is different from jada.

Here is the list of nadi and their abhimaani devatas are also called by the same name, and so does Sri Hari. Actually, He alone is the "owner" of ALL names!
