I will attempt this with my limited knowledge. These verses emphasize basically the highest tolerance for sins in kali yuga and lowest tolerance in kR^ita yuga.
kR^itE = in kR^ita yuga;
sambhAshaNAd Eva = by conversation itself (by mere speaking of evil);
trEtAyAm = in trEtA yuga;
sparshanEna cha = by touch (by coming into contact with evil);
dvAparE tu = (if it is) in dvApara yuga;
annam AdAya = by sharing food (by living with evil people); kalau = in kali yuga;
karmana = by doing evil;
patati = has a downfall.
Mere speaking of certain evil in kR^ita yuga, by coming into contact with that kind of evil in trEta yuga, by living with that kind of evil people in dvApara yuga and actual doing of such evil in kali yuga amounts to same kind of sin which leads to one's downfall.
krtE tatkshanikaH shApastrEtAyAm dashabhardinaiH | dvAparE chaikamAsena kalau samvatsarENa tu ||
shApaH = the punishment;
krtE = in kR^ita yuga;
tatkshanikaH = instantaneous;
trEtAyAm = in trEta yuga;
dashabhiH dinaiH = in ten days;
dvAparE cha = (if it is)in dvApara;
Eka mAsena = in one month;
kalau tu = (if it is) in kali yuga;
samvatsarENa = in one year; (though all are in tR^itIya vibhakti, "by" does not befit in English).
The punishment for a sin that is instantaneous in kR^ita yuga, will happen after ten days in trEta yuga, after one month in dvApara yuga and after one year in kali yuga.
yatkrtE dashabhirvarshaistrEtAyAm hAyanEna cha|
dvAparE taccha mAsEna hyahOrAtrEna tatkalau ||
yat = which;
krtE = in kR^uta yuga;
dashabhiH varshaiH = in ten yeras;
trEtAyAm = in trEta yuga;
hi = only;
AyanEna cha = same thing for six months;
dvAparE = in dvApara yuga;
tat ca = that thing;
mAsEna hi = in one
month; ahO rAtrEna = one day and night(one full day);
tat = that;
kalau = in kali yuga.
The punishment for a sin in kR^ita yuga that lasts for ten years lasts for six months in trEta yuga, for one month in dvApara yuga and only one full day in kali yuga.
In this context, it may be worth while to mention
"yatphalam nAsti tapasa, na yOgE na samAdhinA | tatphalam labhatE samyak kalau kEshava kIrtanAt "
"यत्फलम् नास्ति तपसा, न यॊगॆ न समाधिना ।
तत्फलम् लभतॆ सम्यक् कलौ कॆशव कीर्तनात् "
Whatever punyaphala can not be obtained by penance, yOga or samAdhi can be obtained by mere chanting of kEshava nAma in kali yuga.
"harEr nAma harEr nAma harEr nAmaiva kEvalam |
kalau nAstyEva nAstyEva nAstyEva gatiranyathA"
"हरॆर्नाम हरॆर्नाम हरॆर्नामैव कॆवलम् ।
कलौ नास्त्यॆव नास्त्यॆव नास्त्यॆव गतिरन्यथा"
In kali yuga the sacred name of Hari is the only resort and nothing else.
"nAsti nAsti kalau nAsti hari nAma vinA gatiH | tasmAdyatnEna japtavyam harErnAmaiva kEvalam"
"नास्ति नास्ति कलौ नास्ति हरि नाम विना गतिः ।
तस्माद् यत्नॆन जप्तव्यम् हरॆर्नामैव कॆवलम्"
In kali yuga the only resort hari nAma has to be chanted repeatedly with effort.
Then the famous purandara dAsa kIrtana
"kali yugadolu hari nAmava nenedare kula kOtigalu uddharisuvavu".
In kali yuga the only resort hari nAma has to be chanted repeatedly with effort.
Then the famous purandara dAsa kIrtana
"kali yugadolu hari nAmava nenedare kula kOtigalu uddharisuvavu".
