Significance of Aradhana

By Shri Kesava Rao Tadipatri

The acquisition of knowledge is a long process and while it is necessary that we have to do adhyayana every day, Aradhane is taken as a means to stress the importance of jnAna by performing it for three days. There are instances where Aradhana mahotsavas are performed more than three days also. However, I see some symbolic significance in performing for three days.

Purvaradhane signifies the need to examine the purvapaksha. The more extensive our analysis of Purvapaksha, the more will be our scope to refute the wrong knowledge.

The madhyaaradhane is for real mathane and signifies the debate between PurvapakSha and SiddhAnta. The debate is not necessarily between two different people of two different schools. It can be the mental debate within oneself - raising objections within our mind and answering the objections within again. We become answerable to ourselves. Of course it is also necessary that we remove the doubts of others by refuting the wrong knowledge.

The uttaraarAdhane signifies the uttara or answer, which is in the form of SiddhAnta. ante siddhastu siddhAntaH | what is SiddhAnta? SiddhAnta is that which is finally determined as truth. That truth is what guides us not only just in the current life, but also in the lives to come. That is the path for mokSha.

Shri KrishNArpaNamastu.
